i assume this is a side effect of codebot opening files through the IDE (?)

but for example forms that do not have certain properties like

```auto
    ExplicitLeft = 0
    ExplicitTop = 0
    ExplicitWidth = 0
    ExplicitHeight = 0
```

are being picked up by the version control cause delphi added those properties i assume, and probably caused by codebot opening those files?

not really a big issue but it makes you have a look what could have been changed since you’re not working on that files

Yes, if CodeBot opens a form in the IDE, the IDE does add the Explicit\* properties. I think this is something people have asked to change for years.

What might be interesting and useful is if we could automatically remove them on save. But there is already a plugin to do this: [https://blog.dummzeuch.de/2020/12/27/new-explicit-properties-filter-expert-in-gexperts/](https://blog.dummzeuch.de/2020/12/27/new-explicit-properties-filter-expert-in-gexperts/) Could you tell me if that helps, please?

ddevextensions also…

the other thing is that it seems that whilst codebot is analysing existing code those units get opened in the ide (and they remain open) and therefore they get updated…

so not only do i have a lot of changed files that are not relevant to the work in progress but also the ide gets cluttered with open units that are not relevant…

If you use Git, another option is to use this Git pre-commit hook:

> **[delphi/scripts/git-hooks/remove-ExplicitXxxx at master · bolligerm/delphi](https://github.com/bolligerm/delphi/tree/master/scripts/git-hooks/remove-ExplicitXxxx)**
>
> master/scripts/git-hooks/remove-ExplicitXxxx

Not saying we should not work around it, but: this seems more like a Delphi IDE bug/bad behavior, rather than a CodeBot bug per se.

sure, that’s not the only ide problem, for me the question is if codebot needs the ide to read files, and if so why are certain units really pulled into the ide and others not (same goes for the changes)

Agreed, we should bypass this silliness. @david.millington ?

and it deletes dfm properties which is odd (activepage / tabindex)

We’ve made some changes recently (not yet published) to reduce when it opens in the IDE for reading only. We’ll keep working on that!

Deleting DFM properties: thanks. There may be something odd about those specific ones. We have code that sanitises properties since it’s common for AIs to hallucinate not-quite-right variants; this may be over-correcting. Thanks for listing the specific ones and I’ll look at it.
