I have a C# platform license, very happy with it.

What happens at the end of the year if you choose not to renew it? Will you still be able to build with your existing version of Fire or is an active license required at all times for building? Does an active license just entitle you to new updates, etc?

An active license is required to get new updates, and to use the IDEs. The command line compiler will remain active, so you can rebuild your projects indefinitely, should you decide not to renew.
