# Porting a Delphi 13 Console Application

Hi, I’m new to Oxygene / Water. I’ve downloaded the trial with the aim of getting my Delphi chess engine (Juggernaut) working with Oxygene. It’s a console application (UCI chess protocol) so I would have thought it would be easy. My aim is to see if Oxygene produces fast, support other platforms (Linux and MacOS), a utilize some of the vector capabilities for NNUE position evaluation.

When I initially tried to compile, I was asked to install Delphi 13 compatibility. This took a while and there were the following errors:

`E: Error processing Winapi.EdgeUtils (rtl): Next Address (317) is already taken (<DelphiLocalDeclRecord 316’Result’>).`  
`E: Error processing Winapi.EdgeUtils (rtl): Next Address (363) is already taken (<DelphiLocalDeclRecord 362’Result’>).`  
`E: Error processing FMX.WebBrowser.Win (fmx): RefAddrDef invalid reference 2947, Addresses.Count=2943`  
`E: Error processing FMX.WebBrowser.Win (fmx): RefAddrDef invalid reference 2523, Addresses.Count=2519`  
`E: Error processing Vcl.Edge (vcledge): RefAddrDef invalid reference 3332, Addresses.Count=3328`  
`E: Error processing Vcl.Edge (vcledge): RefAddrDef invalid reference 3052, Addresses.Count=3048`

When I tried to compile Juggernaut I got the following errors:

`W: Delphi support folder for Delphi 13 was not found at ‘C:\Users\steve\AppData\Local\RemObjects Software\EBuild\Delphi Support\Delphi 13’.`  
`E: Reference ‘Island.DelphiSupport’ could not be resolved for target ‘Windows’ (Island Windows x86_64).`

How can I fix this?

Hi Steve,

My apologies for the late reply. The import errors you quoted are somewhat expected right now; just this one unit contains some data in the dcu format that we cannot handle properly yet, but it should just skip that unit and move on. That said, IslandDelphiSupport will normally be built at the end of the import process; if you see an error that it can’t be found, that means it probably was not, and maybe something else failed that I can’t glean from the log snippet.

Can I ask you to enable the highest level of logging in Tools/Options (“Diagnistic”, I believe), re-run the import, and post the complete log, so we can have a look what really failed to stop the import from building IDS?

hi Marc,  
I tried to import Delphi 13.1 SDK and it fails for me too.  
It builds the support library for Linux, but fails compiling it for macOS. If I open the support library solution and try to build it manually, It builds for windows too, but since it fails for macOS, it never reaches that point during the import. (Also, Delphi 13.1 adds support for windows arm as a target, it would be nice if the importer is updated to support that)

It looks like you’re building for x64, but its somehiw jusing arm64 references. Can you set the build level to Diagnostic, do a clean+ebuild, and send me the full log?

Yes, it looks like it mixes both targets. Even if I modify the project to use only one target, if fails.  
`AppData\Local\RemObjects Software\EBuild\Delphi SDKs\Delphi 13\macOS` contains both arm64 and x86\_64 folders.  
This is the log building the project just as it is downloaded by the import process to `AppData\Local\RemObjects Software\EBuild\Packages\EBuild\github.com.remobjects.IslandDelphi`, without any modifications:

AppData\Local\RemObjects Software\EBuild\SDKs\Island\Darwin doesn’t contain folders for each architecture like SDKs\Island\Linux\Ubuntu 2.19 or Android. There is only one rtl.fx for macOS

ah here’s your problem. macOS 27 no longer supports x64. EBuild _should_ probably catch this and err. But the fix is to set `Architecture` to `arm64` only (that it builds both tells me it’s set explicitly; else it would build the arch of your local system (on Mac) or default to arm64 only (on-Windows build)…

I’ll fix EBuild, and also verify the default, jic.

**Update** : yeah it defaults to `arm64` for me, as expected

but it is not MY problem or what I am trying to do. That’s what Water tries to do when you import the Delphi 13 SDK. I’m not trying to build anything, I’m trying to import the Delphi SDK in Water. It’s the default config for Island.DelphiSupport. So Water downloads the project and fails every time.

oh!

i missed that part. Let me check what I can do to solve _that_. It might be fixed alreasyd. by my change to x86\_64 no loge rbeing reported as supported architecture on 27…

What about an option to import only specific targets? It could speed up the process and allow to import x86\_64 for macOS, if you need to build for older hardware.

I tried it. Now import builds DelphiSupport for macOS arm64, but it doesn’t build the library for Windows. Neither for x86\_64 nor arm64. Log attached.  
E: Unsupported architecture (‘Windows/arm64’) for Delphi 13.  
D: | Supported architectures:  
D: | - i386  
D: | - x86\_64  
I think even if an architecture is not supported, it should continue with the next one. Maybe a report at the end saying you are missing that one, but give me the ones you can 😅

It should, with the new IgnoreUnsupportedArchitectures I added… Which seems ot have worked for the original error. I need to investigate what the difference is in paths here.

Ah yes, this is a sepaarte check whwtehr _Delphi_ supports this version (opposed to wetehr Elememgts does for the current platform/SDK). Applied the same there so it shold work with vNext. I’ll send you a new build when i have one.
