Future of WPF?

MS seems now to plan to give up WPF for MAUI?

In 2021, it is still worthwhile to invest in WPF?

Opinions?

Hard to say,;with Microsoft, there;'s always a new UI Framework fad every other year. Remember when UWP was replacing WPF, or when WPF was replacing WinForms?

Do you have a source for that statement?

I don’t have official source from MS. Just rumors flying around on Quora and internet. I still remember around 2010, there was rumor that Silverlight was being abandoned, and people didn’t believe that and it was indeed abandoned in the end.

And MS has a track record of abandoning, and the fear of WPF being “Silverlighted”, again. But of course, the XAML knowledge can be reused with MAUI.

What do you think? @Theo69

I was always surprised that WPF was one of the two surviving UI frameworks, as everything else died at some point. Winforms will always work, as that is just a simple layer on the native Win32 UI - and that is the only reason it will survive.
In my opinion all Microsoft UI frameworks are just temporary available. The only stable part is Windows, as long as that exists, Win32 will exist, and with that, Winforms will exist.

That makes sense. It seems MS gives WinForms more priority than WPF, on their roadmap.

I’ll just leave it here: WPF in 2021: alive, dead or on life support? - DEV Community

For me it seems that WPF will live for some time. Visual Studio is running on WPF and it is a huge investment of development time and efforts for MS. Once we hear that VS moves from WPF to something else - that will be a very bad sign for WPF.
